Connect Google Analytics and Search Console

What SAR asks Google for

Before it sends you to Google, SAR shows a page listing exactly what it will ask for and what it does with it.

• Google Analytics: the read-only permission analytics.readonly.
• Search Console: the read-only permission webmasters.readonly.
• Your Google account's primary email, only to show which account the connection uses. It gives access to no data.
• Data is read only when an AI app you connected asks a question. It is never used to train AI models, and never sold.

Connect step by step

1. Open ConnectionsUnder Available sources, choose Connect Google Analytics or Connect Search Console, read the page and choose Continue to Google.
2. Choose a Google accountPick the account that can see your property or site.
3. Keep the box tickedOn Google's screen, keep the box for reading the data ticked and choose Continue. Without it, nothing can be read and nothing is connected.
4. If Google says it has not verified the appChoose Advanced, then Go to SAR Intelligence. Google is still reviewing the app.
5. Choose one property or siteBack in SAR, choose Choose a property, find it with the filter and choose Save property. If the list is empty, choose Refresh properties.

Until you choose, the source shows "Choose a property" and reads nothing. ChatGPT and Claude see only the property you chose, even if the Google account reaches more.

Changes to Google Analytics

If you want ChatGPT or Claude to create items in GA4, an owner or admin chooses Allow changes on the Google Analytics card. Google asks for permission again: pick an account with the Editor role on the property, and keep both boxes ticked, the one for reading and the one for editing.

• The edit permission applies to the one property you chose.
• Changes are limited to creating custom dimensions, custom metrics, key events and audiences. SAR never deletes or archives anything.
• Each new item waits for a person's approval in SAR, and only owners' and admins' AI apps can ask for one.
• Every change is listed on the Activity page.
• Make read-only stops changes straight away. Google still lists the edit permission in your Google Account until you reconnect the source.
• Search Console always stays read-only.

Good to know

• Search Console data usually lags two to three days, so the most recent days look incomplete.
• Google Analytics dates follow the property's own timezone.
• Disconnect stops ChatGPT and Claude reading the source straight away, and SAR gives up its Google access. You can connect it again later by signing in.
• On the source's card, Manage in your Google Account opens the apps connected to your Google account.
• If a source shows "Needs attention", its Google access was removed or expired: choose Reconnect.

SEO data from outside providers

Keywords, competitors and backlinks come from DataForSEO, Semrush, Ahrefs or SE Ranking, through your own account with the provider. In Connections, choose Connect for the provider and paste your API key.

• Your account with the provider pays for every call, not SAR. Your provider plan must include API access.
• An owner or admin sets a Monthly budget and a Limit per call, both optional. A call that would go over them is refused before it is made.
• An answer already fetched in the last day or week costs nothing again.
• The card shows what was spent this month and what is left with the provider. Change the limits or the key under Limits and key.
• Read-only. Your key stays in SAR, never on your website.
