The short answer
Both apps read a business's data the same way: through a remote MCP server that you add as a custom connector. The differences are practical. ChatGPT supports it on the web with developer mode turned on, Claude's connectors also work in its desktop and mobile apps, and each vendor decides which plans and team roles can add one. SAR Intelligence works the same way in both, so choose the app your team already uses, or use both.
If your team works for several client businesses, see how agencies keep one organization per client, whichever AI app they use.
Key points
- ChatGPT and Claude both add a remote MCP server by its address and sign you in with OAuth.
- In ChatGPT the connection works on the web. In Claude it works on claude.ai, in Claude Desktop and in the mobile apps.
- On plans for teams, admins or owners add the connection for everyone, not each member on their own.
- SAR does not keep your questions or answers. Conversation history follows ChatGPT's or Claude's own settings.
- The same SAR address works in both apps.

What both apps have in common
ChatGPT and Claude both support the Model Context Protocol (MCP). In each one you add a remote MCP server's address, sign in when the app asks, and from then on you ask your questions in the chat.
With SAR Intelligence the address is https://mcp.sar-soft.com/mcp in both apps. You sign in to SAR Intelligence with OAuth and authorize one organization you belong to. SAR has no AI model of its own: it fetches the data through read-only tools, and the AI app writes the answer.
Where each app supports the connection
In ChatGPT, a remote MCP server is added as an app with developer mode turned on, on the web. In its help centre FAQ, OpenAI answers that MCP apps are not available on mobile. OpenAI also describes developer mode as powerful but dangerous, meant for developers, and warns about prompt injection and malicious servers.
In Claude, the server is added as a custom connector. Anthropic says Claude connects to the server from Anthropic's cloud in every Claude app, including claude.ai, Claude Desktop and the mobile apps. The plans that can add the connection in each app are listed in the questions below.
Who adds the connection for a team
On ChatGPT plans for companies, only admins and owners can turn on developer mode and publish an app for the team. Once published, the app appears in members' apps. On some plans, admins use roles to decide who sees each app. If the server's tools change later, the changes do not reach the team until an admin reviews and publishes them.
On Claude plans for teams, only an owner adds a custom connector for the team. Each member then connects and turns it on individually, so Claude reaches only what that member is allowed to see.
In both apps, each person who signs in to SAR Intelligence authorizes an organization they belong to. The roles in SAR are Owner, Admin, Analyst and Member.
Tool approvals and what you can turn off
Both apps ask before they use tools, in different ways:
- ChatGPT: asks for confirmation before write actions by default, and treats any tool that does not declare itself read-only as a write action.
- Claude: asks you to approve tools, and lets you turn off tools you do not want it to use in a conversation.
- SAR Intelligence: gives the AI app only tools that read, so nothing can change your data.
Conversation history and what SAR keeps
SAR does not record the questions asked or the data returned. The credentials for your sources are stored encrypted.
Your conversation history follows ChatGPT's or Claude's own settings. Check the settings of the app your team uses before you ask about customer data, such as the records a Magento connection can read.
How to choose
Nothing in OpenAI's or Anthropic's guides ranks one app above the other for business data. The choice depends on your team:
- Start with the app your team already works in.
- If you want to ask from your phone, Claude's connectors work in its mobile apps, while ChatGPT's MCP apps work on the web only.
- On a plan for teams, find out who your admin or owner is, because that person adds the connection.
- You can use both. The same SAR address works in each app, and each connection authorizes one organization.

Questions people ask
Which plans can add SAR Intelligence?
OpenAI and Anthropic decide, and it changes over time. This is what their guides say today:
- ChatGPTOn a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu plan, on the web, with developer mode turned on.OpenAI's guide
- ClaudeOn any plan. Free allows one custom connector, and on Team and Enterprise an owner adds it first.Anthropic's guide
Do I have to pick only one app?
No. The same SAR address works in ChatGPT and in Claude. Each connection authorizes one organization, and you revoke each one separately in the SAR Intelligence app.
Does SAR keep my conversations?
No. SAR never stores your questions or answers. Your conversation history follows ChatGPT's or Claude's own settings.
What is the MCP server I am adding?
A program that gives the AI app tools for reaching one service. The guide to MCP servers explains what to check before you approve one.
